University of Michigan Auto Lab Research Internship

Summer 2019 - Present

Over the summer of 2019, I had the opportunity to work as a research intern at the North Campus Auto Lab under Professor Boehman. I was able to gain first-hand industry project management experience by completing experimental setups for clients. I worked with a team of undergrads throughout this experience. Our team was assigned a project to create a data acquisition cart for a Yanmar L70V combustion engine.

Benchmark presentation for clients

To execute the task of constructing a DAQ from scratch, we had to conduct the necessary research, specify the needed requirments, develop a working prototype, and run a benchmark test of our solution. The cart we needed to construct required numours different combustion engine testing modules such as pressure transducers, voltimeters, power supplies, etc... The project began as an obsolete Horiba DAQ cart and needed to be gutted of all of its interior components and structures to make room for the newer modules. Various new assemblies needed to be machined and calibrated to hold the necessary modules and to be compatible with our engine. The project started in June and was completed towards the beginning of August in time for our client presentation.
